Living a stronger and longer life is a great goal to have. However, most people directly correlate stronger and livelier as thinner and lighter.

Weight loss is perhaps the most common fitness goal, and with good reason. Poor weight management can contribute to poor health in many ways: mobility is decreased, strength is zapped, reaction is slow, and health issues such as high blood pressure, bad cholesterol levels, and diabetes are far more prevalent.

What most people overlook are the incredible benefits of setting strength goals over weight goals.

Perception can come into play here. Strength training is not just for body builders or athletes. Having a healthy muscle-to-fat ratio keeps your body in check. More lean muscle mass can steadily increase your metabolism and help you prevent injuries while performing every day tasks. And it can improve your overall health.

Training for strength reshapes your body from the inside out. It helps you burn more calories, it makes your body stronger and more apt to fighting diseases, and it helps with stability and bone strength.
